3/4A & 3/4B
On Wednesday, 2nd September, our Year 3/4 students enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens. We explored the gardens while learning about a variety of plants and animals and their important role in our environment. The highlight of the day was spotting an adorable baby duckling! It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about nature and connect their classroom learning with the world around them.
5/6A & 5/6B
On Monday the 17th and Thursday the 20th of August, the 5/6 team went on excursions. On the Monday, we visited GTAC, where we learned how technology can help save bees. We tried out robots that track hives for pests like varroa mite, and worked with cameras and automatic doors that seal a hive shut to keep intruders out.
On Thursday, we visited Victoria's Parliament House, where we met our local member, MP Rachel Westaway. The 5/6 students had the chance to sit in parliament and take on roles ranging from premier to local members, councillors, and the opposition. We held a lively debate on whether dogs should be allowed in classrooms. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot about parliament, politics, and how democracy works.
We also finished our text study on How to Bee, where students wrote journalistic articles suitable for publication in a newspaper about how we can protect bees. The articles included a call to action for the community, highlighting the vital role bees play in our environment.
On Friday the 11th, students participated in a Frisbee Gala Day at Fawkner Park. Everyone had fun, and thanks to Mia for preparing the students to be ready for a great day out. It's been a busy Term 3, and we're looking forward to next term after a well-deserved break. Before we know it, WPS will have a group of new Year 6’s and farewelling students heading off to Year 7 at high school.
Thanks
