August 2025 Issue 6

PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

A very warm welcome back to everyone and an additional welcome to our new families who have joined us short term and long term. We have several families who are either moving to Australia or staying for a short-term visit from a variety of countries. Thank you for adding your vibrance and energy to our community and we hope we give you wonderful Windsor memories.

Some minor ground works have been completed since Term Two finished, hopefully all signs of the water pipe issues we had earlier in the year will soon be gone with re-establishment of gardens and more garden boxes were established near the ELC. Community OSH will no longer be using our facilities for their holiday program so we have moved the ground works (new play space) at The Avenue to the spring holidays, so there will be no interruption to school operations.

Last week our Year 3 and Year 5 families received feedback on how students went with their Naplan testing. This year the assessment gradings are the third year of the new system and it still is a learning journey in how results are interpreted and used. The old system placed students in scaled numeric bands (Band 1, Band 2, etc.), while the new system uses the descriptors ‘Needs Additional Support’, ‘Developing’, ‘Strong’ and ‘Exceeding’. This year is also the first year that the school will be able to compare 2023 Year 3 data with 2025 Year 5 data. For any issues or questions parents/carers may have regarding the changes to the Naplan structure, do not hesitate to contact the school.

Finally, here is to a wonderful second half of the year.

Skateboarding

The WPS students had so much fun during our skateboarding incursion with Brett Royden at the end of term 2! We learnt about the anatomy of a skateboard, how to balance and stand on the board, how to push and even how to do a few simple tricks.

The YMCA Action Sports Learn to Skate program kindly donated us 3 brand new skateboards worth $130 each. We are going to raffle them off in a contest, Mia will be selling raffle tickets on Wednesday’s after school on the deck. The 3 winners will be pulled out of a hat during our next assembly in week 4. Get your tickets while you still can, good luck!
